In the overall ranking, GINIEL was a close 2nd, finishing 35 minutes and 34 seconds behind the leader. He made a comment which holds promise for the next Dakar. “The HILUX has gotten better and better. I am certain that the day will soon come when the HILUX claims victory.” Stepping down from the podium, GINIEL greeted and offered his congratulations to the overall champion, NASSER AL-ATTIYAH (QATAR RALLY TEAM), and to the Moto Category overall champion, MARC COMA. Fans got a charge when GINIEL’s co-driver, DIRK VON ZITZEWITZ, let them touch the 2nd prize trophy. Getting the HILUX all the way to the podium, GINIEL and DIRK had a great time with the other competitors and all the fans along the way. Three HILUXES finished in the top 10 including CHRISTIAN, who was 6th, and BERNHARD in 7th place. In the Production Category, the top three finishers were all TOYOTA competitors. JUN MITSUHASHI (#343) finished 1st and NICOLAS GIBON (#345) finished 2nd, both driving Land Cruiser 200s for TEAM LAND CRUISER. ALEJANDRO YACOPINI (#348 TOYOTA YACOPINI) drove the SW4 (Fortuner) to a 3rd place finish. In the DAKAR 2015, 137 vehicles participated in the Auto Category. 22 of the 67 vehicles that completed all stages were TOYOTAs. Vehicles bearing the TOYOTA emblem accounted for the largest percentage of vehicles completing the race.
